STUDIO CITY, CA – October 1, 2015
Hallmark Channel will debut the most anticipated adaptation of the holiday season, The Bridge, written by #1 New York Times best-selling author Karen Kingsbury. The first of two movies based on the book will premier December 6, 2015, with a second slated for December 2016. A third adaptation of another of her titles will also likely slot in 2016, announced Rick Christian, President of Alive Literary Agency, who brokered the triple-film deal and will serve as co-executive producer.
The Hallmark Channel original world premiere stars Katie Findlay (“How to Get Away with Murder”), Wyatt Nash (“Petals on the Wind”), Ted McGinley (“Hope and Faith”) and Faith Ford (“Murphy Brown”). With a screenplay written by Jamie Pachino, The Bridge is being executive produced by Christian and Kingsbury, along with Emmy-winners Dan Angel and David Rosemont, and industry vets Kim Arnott and Trish Dolman in Canada, where The Bridge films were shot this year.
“Hollywood’s demand for inspirational content is on the rise, and judging by the steady flow of inquiries from top-tier producers, it recognizes Karen’s vast library for the gold mine it is,” Christian said, noting “we’re at just the beginning of taking her fabulous novels from the page to the screen.”
“It’s always been my dream to have one of my books turned into a Hallmark movie,” Kingsbury said. “My readers are all over social media talking about it. This TV movie will be an epic event, one I’m honored to be a part of.”
The Bridge is a Christmas love story set against the demise of the American bookstore. Molly Allen leaves Seattle and her father, a business mogul, to attend a Nashville university. Once there she meets Ryan Kelly, a singer-songwriter who has always known he’d finish college, become a teacher and marry the girl next door. That is, until he meets Molly. At a local favorite bookstore – The Bridge — Ryan and Molly find something neither has ever known before. Charlie and Donna Barton run The Bridge, and treat customers like family. But now it’s Christmastime and Molly is suddenly determined to leave school and return to Seattle for good. Will the help of Charlie and Donna, and a once-in-a-lifetime Christmas miracle, be enough to keep love alive?
The Bridge, published by Howard Books, a division of Simon & Schuster, debuted at #5 on the New York Times Bestseller list and has sold more than 300,000 copies since its 2012 release.
