Dead Lawyers Tell No Tales
By Randy Singer
Landon Reed is an ex-quarterback convicted of organizing a points-shaving scheme. During his time in prison, he found forgiveness and faith and earned a law degree. Now he longs for an opportunity to prove his loyalty and worth.
Be careful what you ask for.
Harry McNaughton is one of the founding partners of McNaughton & Clay—and the only lawyer willing to take a chance on an ex-con-turned-lawyer. As the two men begin preparing their defense for a high-profile murder case, Harry is gunned down in what appears to be a random mugging. Two more lawyers die when the firm’s private jet crashes. Authorities suspect someone has a vendetta against McNaughton & Clay, leaving Landon and the sole remaining partner as the final targets.
As Landon struggles to keep the firm together, he can’t help but wonder if the vendetta is related to a shady case from McNaughton & Clay’s past or to the murder trial he’s neck-deep in now. The key will be surviving long enough to find out.
Landon Reed let down his teammates once. He’s not about to cut and run again.
Loyalty; Forgiveness; Redemption; Marriage struggles; Taking responsibility; Defending an unpopular client.
Virginia Beach law office, courtroom, bar, apartment, gym and parking garage. Washington, D.C.—war room of a defense contractor. Lebanon jail. One scene involving a helicopter over the Chesapeake Bay.
Landon Reed is an ex-quarterback, convicted felon, young husband and newly minted lawyer. (Yes, you can get a law license with a felony conviction but it’s not easy).
Kerri Reed, Landon’s wife, is a hard-charging investigative reporter who gets in over her head. She was pregnant when Landon started his two-year prison stint and married him after he was released. They have their share of challenges.
Harry McNaughten is a crusty old war horse who is brilliant in the courtroom and a tough-as-nails mentor for Landon. When he is gunned down in the middle of a murder case, Landon will do whatever it takes to nail Harry’s killer.
Sean Phoenix is the founder of Cipher, Inc., a high-powered private intelligence gathering firm—“the CIA for hire.” Sean has an eye for Kerri and usually gets what he is after.
Rachel Strach is a young attorney at Landon’s firm who is known for turning heads. She is brilliant, friendly and a breath of fresh air in a cynical firm. Or so it seems.
