Heaven is for Real Joins Left Behind Authors On Amazon’s “Legacy List”…

Heaven Is for Real: A Little Boy’s Astounding Story of His Trip to Heaven and Back has been named one of Amazon’s Top 20 Best-Selling Books of All Time, landing at #17, according to Rick Christian, President of Alive Literary Agency, which represents authors Todd Burpo and Lynn Vincent.

“It’s the second appearance of an Alive title or author on an Amazon “Legacy List”, he said, noting that in 2005, clients Jerry B. Jenkins and Tim LaHaye slotted 9th on Amazon’s 10th Anniversary Hall of Fame, a ranking based on the most books sold by Amazon in the 10 years since it opened on July 16, 1995.

“The world is longing for glimpses of hope, and Heaven is For Real delivers that in spades, much as the Left Behind series did earlier. It’s been a great honor to have played key roles in these franchise properties and so many others, knowing there will be more people in the Kingdom because of them.”

heaven-is-for-realHeaven is for Real is the true story of 3 ½-year-old Colton Burpo, who almost died during an emergency appendectomy. Several months later while passing by the same hospital that saved him, Colton mentioned, “That’s where the angels sang to me,” and began revealing minute details of a visit to heaven—and even of his family’s life and history—things he couldn’t have possibly known or imagined.

Since its 2010 release, the book has sold more than 12 million copies and reached #1 on countless best-seller lists, including The New York Times, USA Today, Wall Street Journal, Publisher’s Weekly, and National Public Radio, among others. The book was adapted into a major motion picture in 2014 and grossed more than $150 million in global box office sales on a budget of $12 million.

“Since Left Behind’s release in 1995, books in that series have sold nearly 70 million copies,” Christian said. “These are staggering numbers by any measure, and combined with those of Heaven Is for Real and all other Alive titles, including those by legacy clients Karen Kingsbury, Eugene Peterson, Henri Nouwen, Brennan Manning and so many others, sales of books Alive has represented now top the 250-million mark. To put that in perspective, the Beatles have sold 177 million albums in the United States, topping the list–ahead of Elvis Presley with 134.5 million. I remember when the Beatles’ John Lennon sparked outrage in 1966, declaring they were ‘more popular than Jesus’. But comparisons like this tell a different story. The word of God and his influence will never be quelled or diminished and I am grateful for authors who continue to tell the old, old story in new ways.”

A revised and updated trade paper version of Heaven Changes Everything: The Rest of Our Story by Todd and Sonja Burpo released in early 2015 with never-before-seen family photos and two new chapters. Television rights were recently sold to Sony TV for adaptation as a weekly series.

Todd Burpo is pastor of Crossroads Wesleyan and a volunteer fireman. His wife Sonja is a children’s minister, teacher, busy pastor’s wife and mom. Colton, now an active high schooler, has an older sister, Cassie, and a younger brother, Colby. They live in Imperial, Nebraska.

Collaborator Lynn Vincent also worked with Sarah Palin on her memoir, “Going Rogue: An American Life”, and “Same Kind of Different as Me”, which Paramount Studios is releasing as a major motion picture in April 2016, starring Renée Zellweger, Jon Voight, and Greg Kinnear. Before launching her writing career through Alive, Vincent worked for eleven years as senior writer, then features editor, at the national news biweekly WORLD Magazine where she covered politics, culture and current events. A U.S. Navy veteran, Lynn is also a lecturer in writing at the World Journalism Institute and The King’s College in New York City.
